Buffalo Memorial Auditorium

I was lucky enough to be present at the last press conference at Buffalo’s Memorial Auditorium. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the building it was the original arena for the Buffalo Sabres hockey team. Hosting sports events in Buffalo, New York since 1970 until in 1996 HSBC arena was constructed to house a new era of Buffalo hockey. Constructed for $2,700,000, The Aud was completed and opened during the fall of 1940 bringing in over 1 million in attendance the first year. Taking on every large gathering from circus’ to political events, the auditorium’s interior has the battle wounds to show for it. Dimly lit hallways and exposed duct-work enhance the haunting reminiscence of walking through the corridors to the nose bleeds. After many rumors of re-purposing the building, the city has decided to take a wrecking ball to it. The future is in close view and with the new arena, logo, and team, Buffalo will move forward to reinforce it’s significance in sports. Our snap shots and souvenirs will hang proudly in our homes and taverns in remembrance and respect for The Aud.
Honda Ruckus

This bad boy has been parked outside our Sausalito office for the past week. I couldn’t take my eyes off the sturdy framework and its straightforward bare-bones design. Stripped down to an utilitarian core, the Honda Ruckus lives above the fancy plastic of scooters today. The dual over sized headlights and exposed frame brings the 2008 model back to the 70’s while the knobby tires lets onlookers know that this isn’t just for cruising the streets. The bike pictured here had a surf board mod attached to the side allowing the operator to easily tote their board to the beach. It looks as if you could carry whatever you wish with the help of a bungee chord or two. With a little 49cc engine you’d think there’s no way you’re doing some serious off roading but make no mistake this industrial beast can take you just about anywhere you want.
The Bottom
I’m outside smoking a cigarette when I see two guys scurry down the street toting bags of cans. They stop directly in front of my apartment to rifle through them. Tweaking and talking, the one guy hands the other a half full pounder of Milwaukee’s Best (Beast) Ice. He quickly puts it to rest. He drank it so fast that the guy who handed it to him congratulated him on his time. Dude#1 then reaches into his sock and asks the thirsty fellow if he would like a Vicodin. From there, he promptly takes back his promise of the pain killer claiming he only has half of one and the rest was at his “house“. He slurps up his half and they both proceed down the sidewalk to their previously discussed stash of cans.
I hope they see this post someday.
Ill thoughts
I woke up in the middle of the night to find out that I felt like absolute shit. At that point I was thinking about how awful the next day would be. How do you approach a day of grogginess, painful gulps and a ripping headache? Putting your mind elsewhere. That’s how. You take your attentions off of your ailments and focus them on all that is good. Remove stress.
SIDE NOTE
I’m watching this Project Earth on the Science channel right now. Have you seen it? They do a bunch of crazy earth experiments in order to reduce the effects of global warming. Right now they’re creating cumulus clouds with salt water particles to reflect the sun. Interesting shit.
