Porcelain Pistols

Awesome right? I don’t know if its the idea of elegant violence, or the power of a pistol being reduced to something as fragile as porcelain but my attraction to the piece remains the same. They’re decorated with classic tableware themes which sends and odd mental image into my mind’s eye. The image of my grandmother blowing smoke across the top of the barrel like she’s just lit someone up. The pistols are replicas of the gun(s) James Bond used which further ties in the suave assassin feel to this work. These hand painted beauties were created by Yvonne Lee Schultz who creates other innocent munitions like pistols made from chocolate. After he’s created such masterpieces, he photographs children playing with, and eating them. The photo’s are brilliantly sinister.
Log Bowls

Designer Doha Chebib from Loyal Loot Collective has created a visually stunning product. Hand made from real logs, these bowls would serve almost no purpose for eating. How much of a bitch would it be to clean these every time you had some cereal? Not for me. They are of course gorgeous. I think I’d almost be inclined to buy a print of the photo shown above. Shining earth tones fill the inner basin contrasting the rugged bark of the exterior perfectly. It’s simple, modern and rustic –and I’d love to drop my keys into one of these bad boys when I get home at night.
Polish Movie Poster

Here’s a print made for the movie Raging Bull that was designed in Poland. They keep it simple and allow the images to speak for the film. The parallel boxers shown portray the main character, Jake La Motta’s struggle between his social life and life within the ring. Keeping the color range narrow, the poster grabs the viewers attention, first at the gloves, then leading your eye to the title which is just as unstable and volatile as DeNiro’s character. Crappy Cat

I came across this site yesterday and was quite intrigued by both the illustrations and the interactivity in the Crappy Cat website. The artwork, which was done by VanBeater, seems like a love child between Tim Burton and the artists behind South Park. The color scheme is simple but effective and works well with the 2D cutout look of the characters. Go play the crappy cat game, which sends you on a run to avoid other odd characters (interacting with them at will) and getting shit housed on whatever elixir Crappy Cat can find.
Going to the store will let you browse some vinyl toys and t-shirts that keep in the style of the crappy cat. I never did understand the craze of designer toys but I’m definitely drawn to the creative process behind them. Maybe I’ll get a blank and do a little somethin’.
New Kanye West

This new Kanye single frustrates me. Only because I’m torn between the vocal synthesizer abuse in today’s music industry and the haunting appeal of this song. So many artists are running their voice through a filter (ie T-Pain, Lil’ Wane etc.) that the integrity of actual musical talent is being compromised. Who determines the success of a musician? Is it the people behind the soundboard or the person behind the mic. Go ahead and listen. You can take it for what it is.
Picture this

Photog’s and caffeine freaks unite. This concept coffee mug takes the mechanical design elements of a camera lens and injects it into the the ordinary, and most of the time lame, coffee mug. Highly detailed, this liquid holding lens is sure to turn heads. If they don’t cheap out on production materials and actually decide to make this “heavy duty”, I’ll definitely fork up the dough.
Keep it Cool

Creator Stefan Buchberger has designed a concept refrigerator that stacks. The separation of each compartment allows for simple organization for your food and segregation from your roommate’s. Fully customizable with accessories like whiteboards and bottle openers, this conception can thrive in frat houses and O.C.D. clinics alike.
